Well, no, I'm just trying to scare you. Due to difficulties getting ready for Morphicon, which it's unlikely we will be able to rev up in time for, Soron and I are actually planning on putting Frozen Oasis on an indefinite sabbatical. I say "indefinite", not "infinite", because we're not sure how long we're going to stop doing the parties for. I'd estimate 9 months - 1 year. This is due mostly to lack-of-interest, both on the convention side, the guests, as well as for us who are putting it on.
While our attendance has been high for the last few Frozen Oasis parties, people don't stick around into the wee-early hours of the morning like they used to. I feel that the party is being taken for granted... like attendees say "Yay Frozen Oasis" and then when 12 or 1 am rolls around they go "there will be another one of these in a month or so, I'm going to bed", and that takes away my enjoyment, and gives me less incentive to continue holding these events. If the conventions would work with us more, and give us a nice room with a high-ceiling where we can have a proper party, I'd be more inclined to continue, but most cons take a "OH please come to our con!!.. but you are on your own" attitude.
... and lastly, is the price of gasoline to tote our gear to conventions all around the country, is getting ridiculous.
So with expenses going up, and interest being somewhat lackluster all around, we're pressing the PAWS button to consider how, or IF, to continue.
Just in case we never pick the party up again, I'd like to thank the party-faithful from the bottom of my heart. It was fun to share this gig with you, and I hope to see you again soon at the conventions.
So please, leave some comments, I'd like to hear your thoughts. Encouragement, tales of woe, ideas to make FO more fun, prospects for conventions willing to help... whatever you would like to say.
P.S. - We will probably continue Frozen Oasis parties that are held in Rochester NY at Soron's house, and we are considering keeping MFM on the list because they let us party all night long, but this will depend on gas prices, come late August. If you have any ideas on how we can subsidize the cost of the 3000-mile round-trip to Rochester to Memphis and back, plz speak up, as it might make the difference as to whether we can continue Frozen Oasis at Memphis.
